We are proudly announced that, on 14th November 2022, a handover ceremony was held at Shewaki to mark the completion of a project that entailed documentation and conservation of an important Buddhist monastic complex that is thought to date from between 3rd and 5th centuries. The event was officiated by HE deputy Minister of Information & Culture and directors of the Afghan Institute of Archaeology and Department of Historic Monuments, and attended by other officials and community elders. Implemented by ACHCO between 2020 and 2022, in close collaboration with specialists from the Ministry, the fabric of a stupa and several other structures that were revealed in the course of excavation, was conserved with the financial support from ALIPH Foundation. The project generated more than 37,000 work/days employment for skilled craftsmen and workers over a period of 34 months, representing a significant contribution to the livelihoods of rural households in the area.
